The US has to improve its ties with China eventually

Xiaoming Guo 郭晓明

Q: Do you think the U.S. and China have an interest in improving ties after a prolonged period of tension?

A:

The US has no choice. It has to improve its ties with China eventually. China, on the other hand, never wants to create tension and conflict with the US. China has long been promoting a relationship of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation with the US, and the Chinese stand never changes.

China wants to have a good relationship with the US but never wants to sacrifice its dignity and interests. If there is tension between China and the US, China is defending its interests and sovereignty, whether it is in the South China Sea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, or Tibet.

The US, as a hegemony, never wants to deal with China as an equal and never accepts mutual respect. The US wants domination in the relationship. Yet, dominating China is a mission impossible. That’s why the US provokes conflicts, provokes confrontations, and the chip war to take all the benefit of tech advantages.

China wants to be friends with every country in the world, including the US. That’s why China not only promotes a relationship with the US based on no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation but also promotes a Shared Future for Mankind. That’s why China wants peace and friendship in the world. With today’s production power and technological advantage, a country can develop without exploding others. Win-win cooperation is feasible. China’s international policy is an exercise of Pareto optimality. It is fair and effective.

The US, with its foreign policy high jecked by the military-industrial complex, wants conflict, confrontation, and wars in the world. It splits the world as “you are one of us or our enemy”. The US believes in winner-takes-all. When the US is waging a trade war and tech war against China, the inflation and interruption of supply chains hurt the world economy and the interests of every country.

So the interest of China is consistent with the interest of the world while the US policy of dominating China conflicts with the interest of the world. War is not in the interest of any country. Chaos is not in the interest of any country. Refugee is not in the interest of any country. Famine and hunger are not in the interest of any country. Common prosperity is in the interest of every country.

Trying to dominate China exhausted the resources of the US. What does the US gain by sending carrier fleets into the South China Sea? Freedom of navigation never be a problem, with or without the US Navy. The only result is the burning of money by the Pentagon. Every day two or three US seveilence planes are flying at the coasts of China. This is not good for the financial status of the US government. The US government debt skyrocketing exponentially, and inflation follows. The increasing US debt weakens the Dollar. The world understands it, even if most countries do not pronounce it.

The US policy toward China since Obama’s pivot to Asia never succeeded in preventing China from rising, and the policy is not sustainable because of the accumulating debt.

Because the policy to dominate China is not sustainable, eventually the US has to improve its ties with China.
